Mariana, a very dear niece of the artist and a brilliant writer, wrote for the
first exhibition that "Each one of us (well, in principle) invents his own life,
his own ways of being happy, of being close to the others. But there are some for
whom this is not enough and who go beyond their everyday life inventing anew the
world, the one they carry inside. With colors, notes, moves, words, they can
re-create complete universes and share them with the rest of us"...
Seen from her eyes, the road Javier Pérez-Duarte has followed to express himself in shapes and graphic elements is clear. Undoubtedly the search began by learning the techniques of pencil, carbon and the discovery of color's richness in pastel, watercolor and oil. Magdalena Casamadrid, José Suárez Olvera, Pedro Medina and recently Martha Ramírez, with their mastery of art and their personality, eased the encounter with the tools to plastic expression.
The study and practice of Architecture allowed him to develop other means of expression, communicating by way of brochures and detailed presentations the ideas, concepts and spatial projects. In the exercise of this Art he developed a certain sensitivity for living spaces, the plays of light and the perception of textures, which he tries to reflect in his painting.
These artistic experiences, fuelled by the intense musical atmosphere felt in his family, have taken flesh in his recent work: the world around music and scenes from everyday life put us in contact with friendly characters of definite personality. His theme paintings and his portraits share these characteristics. His painting tells about ethereal atmospheres which are nonetheless familiar, atmospheres in which light and color, softly handled, take the viewer to intimate memories.
